Candidacy Open for Five Seats on PERA Board of Trustees

DENVER—Candidacy nomination information is now available to PERA members interested in running for one of five open seats on the PERA Board of Trustees.

Elections will be held in 2025 to fill three seats in the School Division, one seat in the State Division, and one Retiree seat:

• School Division: two 4-year terms, to be filled by active members currently employed in the School Division.
• School Division: one 1-year term, to be filled by an active member currently employed in the School Division.
• State Division: one 4-year term, to be filled by an active member currently employed in the State Division.
• Retiree: one 4-year term, to be filled by a retired member from the School, Local Government, or Judicial Divisions.

Note that the two School Division candidates with the highest number of votes will be appointed to serve 4-year terms and the third-place candidate will serve a 1-year term. If there are fewer than three candidates, the Board will appoint a person to serve in any seat that remains open until the next election in 2026.

Anyone interested in running for a seat on PERA’s Board must complete the online candidacy packet request. Candidacy packet requests can be made beginning on January 2, 2025, through February 28, 2025.

The PERA Board meets at least five times per year and is responsible for adopting the rules and policies for the administration of PERA. The Board comprises 16 Trustees, 12 of whom are elected by PERA members and retirees. The governor appoints three (with approval by the Senate), and the State Treasurer serves as an ex officio member. Elected Board members serve without pay but are reimbursed for necessary expenses.

Ballots will be mailed in early May to active members in the State and School Divisions, and to retirees in the School, Local Government, and Judicial Divisions.

The Board will announce the results of the election in June, and elected Trustees will begin their terms July 1.
