What It’s Like Serving as a Trustee on the PERA Board

In 2027, seats representing the Judicial Division, Local Government Division, and Retirees (State, Local Government, and Judicial Division retirees) will be up for election. For those eligible to run, serving on the PERA Board gives you an opportunity to learn, lead, and make a meaningful impact on behalf of PERA members and retirees.

Who Are PERA’s Trustees?

The PERA Board has 16 Trustees. Twelve Trustees are elected by PERA members and retirees, and serve on a volunteer basis. Elected Trustees serve four-year terms and can serve up to two consecutive terms. You can learn more about who is currently serving on PERA’s Board on the Board Members webpage.

What It’s Like Serving as a Trustee

The PERA Board is responsible for setting PERA’s rules and policies, establishing priorities, and overseeing the investment program. The Board meets at least five times each year, and Trustees discuss topics such as PERA’s funding and financial status, legislative updates, policy changes, and more.

All Trustees, regardless if they are elected, appointed, or ex officio, serve as fiduciaries who protect the assets of PERA trust funds. As fiduciaries, Trustees must pursue policies and make investment decisions that benefit all participants of the fund.
