We Hear You: PERACare Survey Results
In July 2025, we asked PERA retirees to complete a survey about health care preferences, and more than 8,000 of you responded. We appreciate everyone who took the time to complete the survey, as your feedback will be helpful as we evaluate PERACare carriers for 2027 and beyond.
Our main goal with the survey was to find out what retirees think PERA should prioritize in selecting carriers. For both Pre-Medicare and Medicare retirees, monthly premiums and the provider network were the top two focus areas.
We also wanted to find out what retirees prioritize when selecting a plan. Medicare-eligible retirees said they prioritize keeping their current providers and prescription medications, followed by premiums and other costs to access care. Pre-Medicare retirees mostly said they were looking for a low monthly premium, with the other factors being less important.
The survey results make it clear that cost is still the number one concern for PERACare retirees, especially those on a Pre-Medicare plan. While all retirees value broad access to providers and prescriptions, Pre-Medicare retirees in particular appear willing to accept plan restrictions in exchange for lower monthly premiums.
