Coverage for COVID-19 Vaccines

As you may be aware, in August the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued updated guidance limiting COVID-19 vaccination eligibility to individuals aged 65 and older, and to those under 65 with qualifying medical conditions. We know you might have questions about how this impacts you, so we wanted to provide the latest information from PERACare carriers.

Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser covers the COVID-19 vaccination at 100% for all Kaiser members aged 6 months and older without the need for a prescription or doctor approval. Kaiser members can get their shot at any Kaiser Medical Office. More information about Kaiser’s COVID-19 vaccine policies and availability can be found on the Kaiser Permanente website.

UMR Plans for those Under Age 65 (Pre-Medicare)

UMR covers the COVID-19 vaccination at 100% for all members who receive the shot at an in-network retail pharmacy or doctor’s office. Based on the FDA guidance, a prescription may be needed before the pharmacy can administer the vaccine to you.

  • In Colorado: The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) issued a public health order effective September 5, allowing healthcare providers to administer the COVID-19 vaccine without a prescription.
  • Outside of Colorado: You may need to talk with your provider or pharmacist to determine how they are making vaccines available to those under 65 with or without qualifying medical conditions.

UnitedHealthcare Medicare Plans

UnitedHealthcare covers the COVID-19 vaccination at 100% for all members who receive the shot at an in-network retail pharmacy or doctor’s office. The FDA guidance recommends vaccination for those age 65 or better, so you will not need a prescription for the shot.
