3 Benefits to Keeping Your PERA Profile Up to Date

Regularly checking your PERA profile is more than just maintaining accurate information. There are many benefits to updating your contact information.

Stay Informed

You never want to miss important information, especially when it comes to your retirement plan. Updating your contact information in your PERA account ensures you don’t miss PERA news and updates. You can help ensure you receive important information by checking your address, email, and phone number regularly. If it’s outdated, you can update your information in your PERA account.

Once you are logged in to your PERA account:

  1. Select “Update my profile.”
  2. Choose “Edit Contact Information.”
  3. Select “Submit” to save your changes.

Help Protect Your Information

According to a 2026 study by the Federal Reserve, “financial institutions are seeing more fraud attempts and losses.” Updating your contact information helps prevent fraud and keeps your information secure so it doesn’t end up in the wrong hands.

It’s also important to protect access to your PERA account. Use a strong, unique password for your PERA account; do not use a password you have used before. By maintaining accurate contact information and a strong password, you build stronger defenses against fraud.

Keep Beneficiary Information Current

If it’s been a while since you checked your PERA beneficiaries or you’ve had some life changes, you may want to review or update this important information. While state law determines the order in which certain people will receive a PERA benefit following your death, you should make sure that your beneficiary reflects your current situation.

You can learn more about choosing a beneficiary on the “How to Choose a Beneficiary” webpage.

To check your beneficiary information:

  1. Log into your PERA account.
  2. Select the “View/edit beneficiaries” button at the top of the home page.
  3. Select “Add Beneficiary” to add a beneficiary or edit your beneficiary’s information.

As your information changes, remember to keep PERA informed. Check and update your PERA profile regularly, especially when your information changes. An updated and accurate PERA profile helps you stay informed about your retirement plan and receive important information.

Don’t Have a PERA Account Yet?

If you don’t already have a PERA account, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the “Member Login/Registration” page.
  2. Select “Register as a new user.”
  3. Complete the “New User Registration” information.
  4. Log in to your account with your newly created user ID and password.
